The Google.org Impact Challenge awarded $5 million to Canadian nonprofits with innovative ideas for a better world.

Growing North, a venture from the SocialVentures Zone, received $250,000 as one of the top 5 finalists at the Google Impact Challenge. The Rumie Initiative, a non-profit organization out of the DMZ, was also one of the top 5 winners, took home a prize of $750,000. Great projects coming out of the Zone Learning network.

On June 21st Growing North also participated in the Summer Solstice Pitch Contest and took home 1st place for the People’s Choice Award & Judges Prize. The pitch contest focused on organizations and startups that aim to tackle Sustainable Development Goal #7: Access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all.

The event was hosted at MaRS and was presented by the World Vision Energy Innovation Challenge and the Government of Ontario Food Security Accelerator Bootcamp.
